Ashish received his PhD from Department of Chemistry, IIT Delhi in November 2017 where he worked on exciting research projects using a variety of spectroscopic techniques to explore complexities inherent to the multi-component liquid systems containing deep eutectic solvents, ionic liquids, and many other industrially relevant solvents, etc. Besides, Ashish also served as Head (R&D) at Clensta International as well as visiting faculty at SRCASW, University of Delhi. At CRE, his research interests include synthesis of green solvents for lignin dissolution and its subsequent conversion to platform chemicals, CO2 adsorption and sequestration, and extraction of precious metals from Li-ion batteries & electronic waste. Ashish enjoys trekking, travelling and playing table tennis.
Dr. Shireen is a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad on the topic "Production of fuels & value-added chemicals from renewable biomass sources" in 2019. She joined the CRE group in 2018 as Research Associate and received National Postdoctoral Fellowship (NPDF) in 2019 to work on the synthesis and characterization of heterogeneous catalysts for the production of building block chemicals from bio-renewable resources. Prior to this, Dr. Shireen did B.E. in Chemical Engineering from Jiwaji University, Gwalior in 2013 and an industrial training at Bharat Oman Refinery Limited. She then worked as Process Engineer at Multitex Filtration Engineers Limited, Delhi for one year. Her accolades include Young Research Ambassador by Elsevier.
Sonal received her PhD from Delhi University in 2018. Her PhD research focused on developing heterogeneous catalysts and process studies for synthesis of Dimethyl ether directly from syngas. She has worked in Bharat Petroleum R & D centre for more than 6 years and has done several internships in industries like Dabur India Ltd, R & D labs etc. At CRE group, she is currently and catalyst development for synthesis of methanol from coal derived syngas and aiming at several CO2 conversion routes. Her hobbies include singing, sketching, music, exploring, travelling, playing and watching sports. She has won many solo singing, badminton competitions at zonal level.
Rohit obtained B.E. (2010) and full-time M.Tech. (2012) in Chemical Engineering from R.V. College of Engineering Bangalore and IIT - Delhi, respectively. Later he joined Department of Chemical Engineering, NIT Jaipur as guest faculty for 2012-2013 then he joined Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT - Delhi as Prime Minister doctoral fellow. His academic supervisor is Prof. K. K. Pant and Industry mentor is Dr. N. V. Choudary, HPCL R&D. At CRE group, his research work focuses on process development for CO2 utilization via Tri-reforming of methane that involves catalyst development, catalyst characterization, catalyst testing and kinetic modelling. His hobbies are gym, Dramatics and Cricket.
After obtaining his M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering (2014) from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Sonit joined CRE group at IIT Delhi in July 2014. At CRE, his research focuses on methane dehydroaromatization (MDA) using zeolite supported metal catalysts under non-oxidative conditions. He is jointly supervised by Prof. K.K. Pant and Prof. M. Ali Haider. Sonit loves running, gyming and prefers to sleep other than working in lab.
Sourabh joined CRE group in Jan 2015 after obtaining his M.Tech from Department of Chemistry, IIT Delhi. During M.Tech. program, he spent 12 months in IOCL R&D Centre India where he gained industrial experience working in the area of Cu nano-fluid synthesis to improve thermal conductivity of different automobile base fluids. Sourbah joined CRE in joint supervision with Prof. M. Ali Haider, and his research focuses on methane dehydroaromatization (MDA) process using zeolite supported metal catalysts under non-oxidative conditions. Sourabh enjoys playing cricket and watching movies in his leisure time.
Kaushal Parmar obtained his B. Tech. in Chemical Engineering from Nirma University in 2011 and M. Tech. from S V National Institute of Technology in 2013. His master’s thesis work at CSIR-CSMCRI, Bhavnagar focused on wastewater treatment by advanced oxidation technologies and photocatalysis. At CRE group, he is currently working as a Prime Minister Research fellow in an HPCL, CHT sponsored and CeNS collaborated research project. His current research focuses on catalyst development and process design of natural gas decomposition to Hydrogen and CNTs in a fluidized bed reactor. Understanding of fluidized bedhydrodynamics and the application of CNTs in hybrid aerogels are also a part of the research. He enjoys listening music and playing guitar, piano etc.
Uma obtained her B.Tech and M.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Nagpur University and NIT Surat, respectively. Her B.Tech work includes Energy Audit, Gas Hydrates, Froth Floatation Technique, etc. M.Tech project was on Carolene Red-Textile Dye and synthesis of LDHs/PNCs for water remediation trace metal particles carried out at CSIR-laboratory, Bhavnanagar. She has six months industrial training experience at BAB Ltd., Nagpur. She has project experience of 1 year in PEM fuel cells and Plastic cracking at IIT Delhi. Jointly supervised by Prof. K. K. Pant and Prof. S N. Naik (CRDT), at CRE group Uma is working on ‘Thermo-catalytic Cracking of Waste Plastics for the Production of Value Added Chemicals’ which includes, formation of fuel range liquids, high grade carbon materials, and LPGs.
Prashant obtained his B.Tech degree from Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Pune and M.Tech degree from IIT Delhi. He has worked on the recovery of copper from electronic waste using chelation technology during his master’s thesis at IIT Delhi under supervision of Prof. K. K. Pant and Prof. K. D. P. Nigam. He has continued his master’s research work into Ph.D. and working on the development of a green process for the recovery of metals from electronic waste and conversion of e-waste plastic into valuable products. Prashant loves playing football, and enjoys cooking fish.
Farah did her B.Tech (2014) from University School of Biotechnology, GGSIPU, Delhi and M.Tech (2016) from Institute of Chemical Technology Mumbai. Her research work included production of second generation biofuels and fermentative production/downstream processing of novel lipase from Sachhharomyces boulardii in her B.Tech and M.Tech, respectively. Currently, she has been registered as full-time PhD student in IIT Delhi, jointly supervised by Prof. K. K. Pant and Prof. Anushree Malik. Her research work is focused on microalgae-based wastewater treatment and algal processing using Hydrothermal liquefaction to produce bio-valuables. Farah enjoys playing football and is always up for outdoor sports.
Akshay completed his B.Tech (2014) and M.Tech. (2016) in Chemical Engineering from Pune University and UICT, NMU, Jalgaon, respectively. His bachelor’s and master’s thesis project at CSIR-NCL (NCL), after Pune, focussed on development of heterogeneous catalysts for conversion of biomass derived xylose sugar to furfural. Besides, he also gained industrial experience through internship at Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (RCF), Mumbai. At CRE group, he is currently working on development of catalyst for the conversion of lignocellulosic biomass into value-added chemicals and fuels. He enjoys travelling, music, and learning new languages.
Komal obtained her M.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT BHU, Varanasi, in 2016 where her work focused on developing heterogeneous catalysts and process studies for selective catalytic reduction of Nitrogen oxides (NOx) from lean burn I.C. Engines. Her industrial experience involves internships at Kansai Nerolac Paints Limited and Indian Farmer Fertiliser Cooperative Limited. At CRE group, she is currently working on catalyst development for conversion of Coal derived Syngas (CO2, CO2) to Methanol and Dimethyl ether. Her hobbies include travelling, running and playing sports.
Rajan obtained his B.Tech. (2014) and M.Tech. (2017) in Chemical Engineering from Abdul Kalam Technical University (formerly UPTU) and IIT Dhanbad, respectively. His master’s thesis was titled “Catalyst development for CO2 hydrogenation to methane”. At CRE group, he is currently working on catalytic conversion of CO2 to methanol and DME. His research includes development of a catalyst using modifiers and understanding the structure-reactivity relationships and kinetics of reaction.
Ramdayal Panda obtained his B.Tech. (2014) and M.Tech (2016) in Chemical Engineering from Guru Ghasidas University and IIT Kharagpur, respectively. During M. Tech., he worked on Photocatalytic degradation of Methylene blue using MIL-53(Fe)/Fe2O2 composites at IIT Kharagpur. He joined CRE groupin 2017 where he is working on developing green novel methods and processes for recovery of valuable metals from electronic waste.
Sagar obtained his B. Tech (2014) in Chemical Engg from PIET, Nagpur and M. Tech (2016) from LIT, Nagpur. His B. Tech project focussed on ‘Distillery wastewater treatment from membrane bioreactor’ and M. Tech thesis project on ‘Studies on trans-esterification of cottonseed oil’. Besides, he also worked on ‘Poly(I-lactide) ionomers’ during his internship at CSIR-NCL, Pune. Project experience of 14 months at IIT Guwahati on ‘Supercritical fluid extraction of natural antioxidants for food preservation from spices and non-conventional fruits endemic in the northeastern region’. He is working in joint supervision of Prof. K. K. Pant and Prof. S. N. Naik (CRDT), on 'Development of second and third generation derivatives products from castor oil’. He is a cricket player, enjoys traveling, trekking.
Shreya completed her B.Tech from NIT Bhopal in Chemical Engineering and M.Tech from IIT Delhi in Atmospheric Sciences. Her master’s project involved working on impact of aerosols on visibility using chemical transport modelling. She joined CRE group as Prime Minister Research Fellow in 2018 where is working on photocatalytic conversion of CO2 to value added products. Her hobbies include exploring new places and playing sudoku.
She obtained her B.Tech and M.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Banasthali University and IIT BHU, respectively. During her master project, she worked on potable water production via capacitive deionisation in which activated carbon was prepared from coconut shell. She also worked on removal of active pharmaceutical ingredients like (paracetamol, ibrufen, antiobiotics) from waste water using various adsorbents at CSIR NCL, Pune. Further, during her internship at Nuclear Fuel Complex at Dept. of Atomic Energy, Hyderabad, she worked on designing a ventilation system for zirconium sponge plant. Snigdha joined CRE group in 2018 where her work is focused on extracting precious metals from e-waste using green solvents. She enjoys music, travelling, reading novels, playing badminton.
Vaibhav completed his B. Tech. from UPTU and M. Tech. in Chemical Engineering from IIT(ISM) Dhanbad. During his master’s he has worked on catalytic conversion of CO2 to methanol in fixed bed reactor.His present research area is catalytic conversion of syngas to methanol in slurry reactor. He enjoys swimming and playing chess.
Vallari obtained her B. Tech. in Biotechnology from SIES Graduate School of Technology, Mumbai University. She also holds M. Tech in Bioprocess Technology from the ICT, Mumbai. Her undergraduate thesis was focused on the production of biodiesel using enzymatic route while her graduate thesis aimed at production of microbial oil (PCT patent). Prior to joining CRE, she worked with Agilent Technologies as aftermarket sales manager. She is an IIT Delhi-University of Queensland joint PhD program student and her work at CRE lab is focussed on catalytic conversion of sugarcane bagasse for the production of high-value platform chemicals. She is interested in the field of bioprocessing and sustainable development. Vallari is passionate about classical dance and music.
Akshata completed her M.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Nagpur University, in 2018 where her work focused on synthesis and characterization of carbon foam from lignin phenol formaldehyde (LPF) resin and sucrose resin. Her industrial experience involves internships at Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (RCF), Alibagh. Akshata joined CRE group (joint supervision, Prof. Divesh Bhatia) where she is currently working on “Upgradation of light cycle oil to value added products”. Her hobbies include travelling, singing and dramatics.
Surya obtained his B.Tech. (2016) and M. Tech (2018) degree in Chemical Engineering from Ch. Charan Singh University Meerut and IIT (BHU) Varanasi, respectively. He has worked on synthesis of PVA based hydrophilic membrane and their application in pervaporation of azeotropic mixtures during his master’s thesis. He joined CRE group (joint supervision, Prof. S. Upadhyayula) in 2018, where he is currently working on “Development of green novel solvents (ionic liquids based) for CO2 capture. His hobbies include travelling, reading and playing sports.
Abhinav completed his B.E. (Hons) Chemical Engineering & M.Sc.(Hons) Biology from BITS Pilani K K Birla Goa campus and has done his M.Tech in Chemical engineering from IIT Madras in 2018. For his M.Tech he worked on Pyrolysis of crude oil sludge to diesel range hydrocarbons. He has done internships in SAIL Bokaro Steel plant and CSIR-IICT Hyderabad. He joined CRE in joint supervision with Prof. S. Upadhyayula and is currently working on catalytic synthesis of Methanol from Syngas. He is interested in volleyball and reading.
Pranit completed his B.Sc (Chemistry Hons.) in 2012 and B.Tech from University of Calcutta in 2015. He pursued his M.Tech from the Department of Chemical Engineering, SVNIT, Surat in 2019. His master’s thesis work involved “Stacked Osmotic Microbial Fuel Cell for Simultaneous Recovery of Water and Bio-electricity from Wastewater”. At present in CRE group, his research work emphasizes on zeolite based catalytic alkylation process. He loves playing badminton, and photography.
Deepti has acquired her M.Tech degree from Department of Chemistry, IIT Delhi. During her M.Tech her research project was oriented towards the synthesis of metal organic framework which has been utilized as heterogeneous catalyst for various organic transformation. She completed her graduation and second program, Post graduation from University of Lucknow. In her Master of Science program her project thesis was related to application and synthesis of fuel cells (hydrogen fuel) and emphasis the importance of fuels for tomorrow. Currently, she is in University of Queensland- IIT Delhi joint PhD program and joined CRE lab in July 2019. Her research work at CRE lab is focused on the methane dehydroaromatization over metal impregnated hierarchical zeolite under non oxidative condition. Her hobbies include dancing, singing and playing badminton.
Amrita is pursuing her PhD from IIT Delhi. She is working on development of green process for the recovery of metals from electronic waste and conversion of e waste plastics into valuable products with supercritical fluids and is jointly supervised by Prof.K.K.Pant and Prof.S.N.Naik (CRDT). She obtained her M-Tech degree in Chemical Engineering from BITS Pilani, Rajasthan in 2016 where she worked on Experimental and theoretical studies of dye removal from industrial waste water using bioremediation. She has also worked on mitigation of membrane (bio) fouling and Evaluation of IR Nano particles for Sensitive E-field mapping as Junior Research Fellow (JRF) after her post graduation degree. She likes to paint, listen music and watch plays in her spare time.
Venkanna obtained his bachelor's degree from the department of chemical engineering, VNIT Nagpur in 2015. His bachelor project involved study of thermal, mechanical and rheological properties of poly-carbonate nano-particles. His summer project involves\d the conversion of plastic waste into CNTs using Ni/Mo/MgO catalyst. He completed his master's from the department of chemical engineering (catalysis technology, NCCR) IIT Madras in 2017. His thesis work was development of photo electrocatalyst for the reduction of carbon dioxide to value added products. He had worked as a programme associate in Avanti Fellows. He joined CRE group in 2019 where he is working on photo electrocatalyst development for efficiently converting carbon dioxide to value added chemicals. His hobbies includes playing kho-kho and reading.
Iqra completed B.tech and M.tech from National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar. Her masters project was focused on fabrication of Ion exchange membranes for direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC). She has worked as faculty in department of chemical engineering NIT Srinagar from 2017 to 2018. She joined IIT Delhi in 2019, jointly supervised by Prof. K. K. Pant and Prof. M.A. haider. Her research area focuses on Methane Dehydroaromatization (MDA) process using zeolite supported metal catalyst. She like sketching and cooking in my leisure time.
Marut received his M.Sc. Chemistry with Inorganic Chemistry as Specialization from University of Delhi. He holds Bachelor of Science with Honors in Chemistry from Ramjas College, University of Delhi. He has been endowed with DST INSPIRE Scholarship by Indian Government and also Summer Research Fellowship by the Indian Academy of Science, Bengaluru. He has worked as an apprentice in IOCL Panipat Refinery. Currently, He is in University of Queensland- IIT Delhi joint PhD program where his research work is focused on Green synthesis of CNTs-based hybrid aerogels for wastewater treatment. Marut is passionate about writing Hindi Poems and also generates and pitches ideas for the promotion of Hindi as a blogger.
Sadaf is a silver medalist in her Master of Technology in Biotechnology from Integral University, Lucknow. She holds a Bachelor of Technology in Biotechnology from Amity University with a full 100% merit scholarship. She has worked as Research Intern in CSIR-IITR (Indian Institute of Toxicological Research) in Animal Cell Culture for one year. She had pursued her Master Dissertation at CSIR-NEERI (National Environment Engineering Research Institute). She is an IIT Delhi-University of Queensland joint PhD program student and her work at CRE lab is focussed on Development of biobased silver nanoparticles for application as wastewater disinfectant. She believes that self-motivation and zeal for learning keeps her going forward. Her hobbies are calligraphy, drawing and photography..
Shashank Shekhar completed M.tech in 2019 from Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad. His master’s project was focused on “Mathematical Modelling of Liquid-Liquid Phase Separation of Ternary and Quaternary System of Membrane Synthesis”. He has one year of industrial experience at Gujarat Ambuja Export Limited, Karnataka. He joined IIT Delhi in 2019, supervised by Prof. K. K. Pant. His research area focuses on “Conversion of Heavier Hydrocarbon into CNT and Its Commercial Application”. He enjoys reading books, writing couplet (shayari), playing flute etc.
Nayan pursued his Bachelor’s (B.E.) from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Assam Engineering College and completed his Masters (M.Tech) from the Department of Energy, Tezpur University in 2020. In his final year of Master’s project he worked on ‘Conversion of Furfural by liquid phase selective Catalytic Transfer Hydrogenation’ for the development of a unique, cost efficient and green catalyst for hydrogenation of furfural to value added chemicals in CRE Lab under the supervision of Prof. K.K. Pant. He joined Prof. K. K. Pant for his Ph.D. in 2020. His hobbies include composing music, singing and playing guitar.
Avijit completed his B.Sc (Chemistry Hons.) from St. Xavier’s College Kolkata and B.Tech from University of Calcutta. He pursued his M.Tech from the Jadavpur University in chemical engineering. His master’s project work was focused on “Analysis of heat transfer in modified Chemical vapour deposition processes”. He joined IIT Delhi in 2019 and jointly supervised by Prof. K. K. Pant and Prof. S. Roy. His research work focused on Development of hierarchical novel catalyst for one pot conversion of CO 2 rich synthesis gas to Dimethyl Ether (DME). He likes playing football and cooking.
