Biosketch


Dr. Neeraj Khare is currently Professor in Physics Department, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India. He received his Ph.D. (Physics) from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India in 1986 and M.Sc. (Physics) from Allahabad University. After Ph.D., he joined Physics Department, Avadh University, Faizabad (1987-1988). He visited Department of Chemical Physics Application, Polytechnic of Milan, Italy as ICTP fellow (1988). Subsequently, he joined National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi in Superconductivity Group as Scientist in December 1988. He joined IIT Delhi in Physics Department in October 2005. He has also worked as the head of the Nanotechnology Center at IIT Delhi from 2016 to 2022 and brought more than 12 million USD funding. He had various visiting positions at Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy, University of Cambridge, UK, IBM, T. J. Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY, USA, Department of Physics and Applied Physics, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK, Pohang University, South Korea and National University of Singapore. He has long experience of teaching and research. He has supervised 28 Ph.D. students and more than 100 project theses of Master's and Undergraduate students. His research interests are in the area of fabrication and study of semiconducting, magnetic, ferroelectric, superconducting nanostructure/nanocomposites and exploring its potential for novel applications such as for enhanced photodegradation of organic dyes in industrial waste-water, photoelectrochemical water splitting for H2 production, nanogenerator for harnessing mechanical energy, thermoelectric devices, solar cells, resistive switching for neuromorphic computing and superconducting quantum devices. He has published over 250 papers in international journals (current h-index is 50 and i-10 index is 141), nine patents and has edited three books including a book on “High-Temperature Superconductor Electronics”. He is recipient of IIT Delhi Lifetime Achievement Award, Material Research Society of India Senior Scientist Award, IIT Delhi Basic Research Award, MRSI-ICSC Award, Platinum Jubilee lecture award of Material Science Section of Indian Science Congress Association, Material Research Society of India (MRSI) Medal award, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Young Scientist award and Indian Science Congress Association Young Scientist award. He is a Fellow of Institute of Physics (IOP), UK, Fellow of National Academy of Sciences India (NASI), Trinity College (Cambridge) visiting scholar fellow and Fellow of Asia Pacific Academy of Materials, member of the editorial board of Superconductor Science and Technology (2005-2008) and member of the editorial board of Current Physics Application from 2017 and member of the editorial board of Proceedings of National Academy of Science: Physical Sciences from 2023.
