Asian Congress on Biotechnology - 2013 (ACB2013) was organised by IIT-Delhi under the aegis of Asian Federation of Biotechnology (AFOB) during December 15-19, 2013 at New Delhi (India), which was supported by the Indian Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR),Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC, DBT, India) and Indian AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI). A total of 550 delegates from 23 countries, mainly from Asia, participated in the Congress. ACB2013 had both oral and poster presentations in areas such as Agri- and food biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, Biorefinery and Biofuels, Enzyme and cell culture technology, Healthcare biotechnology, Biotechnology tools and Environmental biotechnology. There were 7 plenary lectures and 28 scientific sessions, in which 28 keynote lectures and 25 invited lectures were presented by eminent biotechnologists. In addition, 180 scientific poster presentations were made. A specific feature of this Congress was the inclusion of a special Symposium on “Accelerating discovery research to early development in biologicals and vaccines ”, which focused on improving the healthcare delivery system in developing countries of Asia and beyond. The Congress also had a Panel Discussion on “Cooperation amongst Asian Countries ” which furthered the aim of fostering collaboration amongst professionals from academia and industry for accelerating the pace of development of biotechnology in Asia.
