Routers and IPs
Since we have moved to 99B. Most of the equipment are linked to the router with ip: 10.170.133.252. So, for all equipment and computers in 99B, they are all connected to the router which is assigned a static ip: 10.170.133.252, hereby named as '99B-router-ip'.
The router in MGGP is : 10.198.80.68 and is termed as 'MGGP-router-ip'
Getting access to NeoLab-Server 1
- Write to incharge (Krishna B) and get the your username added to the server. Receive username and password.
- In windows you will use powershell. In linux/ Mac you will use the terminal.
- Open powershell and start a new SSH session with ip address: 10.170.133.252 and port 22. For linux, login using ssh -Y username@99B-router-ip
- Enter the username and password received by you.
- Once logged in, you are inside and you can access all the files and softwares
- An alternative to the powershell for windows is Mobaxterm. You need to manually enter the details. Also remember to enable the X11 forwarding. The best for windows is to use the VNC as described below.
If any software you require is not available, contact the administrator.
Using VNC Viewer with the Server 1, Server 2, TCAD1 and so forth
VNC viewers are excellent tools to have a desktop access to server, in contrast to the command line one. VNC viewers will permit every user to permenantly have his own private desktop on a server such that any window opened/script run will always be active. They can close the viewer, but the desktop will remain active.
Remember, this is an alternative to mobatermX, wherein, you use command line to interface with the server, and you can have the server display softwares directly to your windows desktop. Choose which ever method you want to use
The steps to use vncserver is presented below. You need to do this only once. Subsequently, you only open the viewer software and the desktop will be available.
- In windows, you need two softwares. (1) powershell and (2) vncviewer (any thing will do, realvnc, tightvnc, tigervnc and such)
- Get a VNC viewer port assigned for you specifically from the server owner (bkrishna)
- Open powershell in windows 11.
- Login to the server by entering the IP and the vnc port you got assigned (say it is 590x): ssh -L 590x:localhost:590x uname@99B-router-ip
- Enter the uname and pass
- type the following commands
- vncserver :x
- if you are using for the first time, it will ask for a password: remember what you give
- Do not close the powershell window.
- open the vncviewer software (say realvnc/ultravnc/screensharing (mac)) and type the address as : localhost:590x
- When asked for the password, give the password you set for the vnc (two steps back)
Thats it. This should work. As long as the powershell is connected to the server with the ssh tunnel, the vncviewer should happily work.
Using VNC in CVD controller
The controller currently housed in MGGP has a much newer VNCSERVER. The setup is slightly simplified.
- Contact the adminstrator and get a display number associated to the user
- If the display number is x, then login to server: ssh -L 5905:localhost:5905 username@10.198.80.68
- If using vnc for the first time, type vncserver and set up the password
- If you have already set the password, do not start vncserver again by typing vncserver
- Open any vncserver and connect to your session by typing localhost:590x
Accessing windows systems in 99B lab
All the windows systems in 99B lab are connected to the router and can be accessed by any system connected to the IITD wifi. The process is as follows:
- Open an VNC viewer and type the following address for reaching the systems
- The measurement system can be reached via: 99B-router-ip:5910
- The probe station can be reached via: 99B-router-ip:5909
- The optical table ssytem can be reached via: 99B-router-ip:5911
vasp usage
The vasp is installed in /opt/vasp. Therefore, one has to do $ source /opt/vasp/vasp-5.4.4.pl4/setVasp.sh to set the environmental variables.
