Research Statement
Our research area is the mechanics of fracture. We intend to address some very fundamental problems in this subject. Since the problem in itself is paramount - the method or tool used is according to the problem being considered. Therefore, we use theory, simulation and experiments as the need goes. In short, we intend to specialize in the problem and not the method/tool.

Sachin Yadav (2020-)
Sachin's research project involves the study of interaction of two cracks growing towards each other. He has received M. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay and B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from YMCA UST, Faridabad.Ayan Basu (2021-)
Ayan's research project involves the study of crack growth due to pressure and temperature at the atomistic scale. He has received his B. Tech. degree from Kalyani Govt. Engineering College. He dropped out of his M. Tech. degree at IIEST, Shibpur to work towards his Ph. D. at IIT Delhi.Naveen Kumar (2021-)
Naveen's research project involves the study of the propagation of curved cracks due to contact mechanics. He has received M. Tech. in Machine Design from NIT Durgapur and B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from AKU Patna.Chandan Kumar (2024-)
Chandan's research project involves the study of mechanics-based design against fatigue fracture in welds. He is a part-time Ph.D. candidate and currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Design at Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida. He has received his M. Tech. in Mechanical System Design from NIT Srinagar and B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Rourkela.Ruhil Majid (2025-)
Ruhil has recently joined and is still deciding his topic of research. He has received M.Tech in Mechanical System Design from NIT Srinagar, where his thesis investigated the effect of load ratios and temperature on fatigue crack growth in AZ31 magnesium alloy. He has also received B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kashmir.Join our team, either as a
Post-doctoral Fellow
I will be able to write endorsement letters to help a suitable candidate get Post-doctoral fellowship from external agencies.Ph. D./M.S. (R) student
We are a dynamic team involved in trying to address some unresolved fundamental problems of fracture mechanics extending the application to composites and thermo-elasticity. Please drop in an email with your CV if you are highly motivated and meet the minimum eligibility criteria for a Ph. D./M.S. (R) in this department (details elsewhere). I would expect you to be somewhat confident about the concepts of Linear Elasticity - here is one of the many places to learn this.Summer Faculty Research Fellow (SFRF)
If you are a faculty at any recognized institute and do not hold (or are enrolled in) a Ph.D. degree, you are welcome to apply for the Summer Faculty Research Fellow Programme at IIT Delhi (details elsewhere) with me. Please express your interest to work with me when you apply. There is no need to email me separately at any stage.Past Members
