Project Proposal

Turn Strangers Into Connections

Introduction

This is a project which basically helps in social interaction among humans.

There are moments when you find yourself sitting next to a stranger, either at a bus stop or sitting in the park, with zero incentive to strike up a conversation.  Human beings are social animals and yet, in this changing world they end up looking at their phones whenever they get a little free time without talking to each other. Me and my team mate Medha (http://privateweb.iitd.ac.in/~dds196011/ )  wanted to work on this aspect and do our bit to change this attitude.

While searching for different interactive projects, we found an interesting project with a similar idea in Medium ( https://medium.com/@MandiCai/how-to-get-two-strangers-to-talk-to-each-other-317f7b558f25 ). So we are planning to use this basic idea and work on it of our own with small changes in the final product.

This consists of a furniture, an L shaped bench which allows two people sit near each other without forcing them sit next to each other. One can keep his/her phone in the socket provided with the bench so that a music starts playing, but will be an incomplete audio. Only if the other person also does the same, the two audios in sync will create a soothing experience for their ear. This makes them curious and will be a baby step towards starting a conversation between two strangers.
