Biography
Sunil joined the Faculty of Physics Department, IIT Delhi in 2015. Prior to joining IIT Delhi, he worked with Prof. Yaron Silberberg (2012-2015) at the Department of Physics of Complex Systems, Weizmann Institute of Science, in the field of Nonlinear optics, super-resolution imaging and quantum coherent control. During this period, he contributed towards the development of single beam single pulse multimodal microscopy system involving nonlinear optical micro-spectroscopy, coherent anti-Stokes Raman Scattering and nonlinear generation by photonic crystal fibers for the FAMOS project by the European Union. Sunil received MSc degree in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 2004 and later Post MSc Diploma in Advance Physics from Institute of Physics in 2005. Subsequently, he obtained PhD degree in experimental condensed matter physics with Gold Medal from IISc Bangalore in 2012 under Prof. Ajay Sood on the thesis titled, Femtosecond time-domain spectroscopy of iron pnictide superconductors and nanosystems. He received training on the design and development of intense femtosecond laser oscillators, regenerative amplifiers and optical parametric amplifiers at Spectra Physics in San Jose, California, USA in 2006 and on the THz sources, detectors and time-domain spectrometers at the Universite de Bordeaux, Talence, France in 2007. At IIT Delhi, Sunil is actively involved in teaching and frontier research in the areas of femtosecond/ultrafast optics, nonlinear optical processes, physics of quantum materials and THz science and technology. He is the principal investigator at the Femtosecond Spectroscopy and Nonlinear Photonics Laboratory.
