Femtosecond Spectroscopy and Nonlinear Photonics Group

Principal Investigator

Prof. Sunil Kumar

Sunil Kumar joined Faculy of the Physics Department in May 2015. Prior to joining IIT Delhi, he has worked at the Department of Physics of Complex Systems, Weizmann Institute of Science, with Prof. (late) Yaron Silberberg during 2012-2015 in which period he was responsible for the development of coherent anti-Stokes Raman microscope for the FAMOS project by the European Union. Sunil Kumar obtained his Masters in Physics from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 2004 and later Diploma in Advance Physics from Institute of Physics in 2005. He received his PhD in experimental condensed matter physics with Gold Medal from IISc Bangalore in 2012 under Prof. A. K. Sood. He has gone through rigorous training on the design and development of intense femtosecond lasers at the Spectra Physics factory in San Jose, California, USA in 2006. He has been a visiting researcher to multiple Universities.
At IIT Delhi, Sunil Kumar teaches physics courses to the undergraduate and graduate students. His research group conducts frontier research in the areas of femtosecond/ultrafast optics, nonlinear optical processes, THz spectroscopy, and physics of quantum materials.
