Reduced Order Modeling (ROM) or Model Reduction (MOR)

Reduced Order Modeling (ROM) , Model Order Reduction (MOR), or simply Model Reduction is an area that has received much attention, particularly in the last 10-15 years. With increasing computerization and automation of the design process, in the electronics industry to mechanics & aerospace, the role of simulations has increased manifold. But reliable models comes with an increase of variables, increasing the time of simulations and cost. Hence the need for model reduction. The aim is to approximate the dynamic characteristics as faithfully as possible, while reducing the number of variables involved the model. In other words, to preserve the input-output characteristic to the extent possible, while reducing the number of state variables. Preservation of further properties like stability, passivity, etc. wherever possible, is also an additional reward.
