Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Delhi, M.Tech Admissions, Summer 2026

1. Eligibility criteria: We will use the following eligibility criteria related to qualifying degrees and disciplines (this is also mentioned in the information brochure):
  • BTech/BE in any discipline OR
  • BS/BSc (4yrs) in CS/Math/Statistics/Data Science/AI OR
  • (Bachelor + Master) or Integrated masters (of total duration at least 5yrs) in CS/Math/Statistics Data Science/AI OR
  • Master of Computer Applications.
  • Qualifying GATE Disciplines: CS

    Please note that we will apply the shortlisting criteria given in point (2) below and create shortlists assuming that the applicants have checked and satisfy these eligibility requirements. Candidates whom we suspect do not satisfy our eligibility requirements will be contacted separately to verify, and their application process will be terminated if they do not satisfy these requirements.

    2. Shortlisting criteria: The approved shortlisting criteria is posted at this link. Note that the department has the liberty to define shortlisting criteria over and above the minimum requirements of the institute. We will thus not entertain any communication in this regard.

    3. Admission to the CSE, MTech full-time program will be based on CS GATE score. No interview/test will be conducted for admission to the full-time M.Tech program. There are two exceptions:

    4. Online interviews for IIT BTechs with CGPA>=8.0 will be held on 30th April (Thu), from 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM. The following candidates have been shortlisted for an online interview : (link).

The following candidates having a B.Tech/B.E degree from Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) with CGPA>=8.0 have been shortlisted for an in-person interview/test for the M.Tech program: (link) and the 'MTech High-Value Assistantship (HVA)' program (link). Further information regarding the interview/test is provided below.

    9. If you feel you should have been shortlisted, but your name does not appear, do the following. Double-check the list of application IDs and the shortlisting criteria. If you still feel you should have been shortlisted, email the M.Tech coordinator at icmtech@cse.iitd.ac.in.

    10. If anybody has been shortlisted in error, their application process will be terminated as and when discovered.

    Test/Interview instructions (only for shortlisted CFTI, part-time/sponsored and HVA applicants)

    (A) An in-person written test will be conducted on 13th May. Interviews will be conducted for candidates who clear the written test from 14-15 May. The final selections will be made on the interview scores. Please make appropriate travel arrangements. Please note that we will NOT be able to arrange hostel accommodation. Shortlisted CFTI, HVA and part-time/sponsored candidates should fill in the following questionnaire form by May 6, 2026. If you fail to fill this form by May 6th, you may not be allowed to appear for the next stage of the selection process. If you meet the shortlisting criteria but were not included in the lists above,please inform us as soon as possible.

    (B) Those shortlisted are invited to appear for an in-person written test at IIT Delhi on 13th May. Those shortlisted are invited to appear for an in-person written test at IIT Delhi on 13th May. The written test will be held on 13th May in the Lecture Hall Complex (LHC) at IIT Delhi. The exact room numbers assigned to shortlisted applicants will be posted here by the 12th.

    (Updated on May 12, 2026) The written test will happen in the rooms LH 111, LH 114, LH 121 (all located in the ground floor) of the Lecture Hall Complex (LHC). Here is the room assignment for the exam on 13th May. The reporting time is 11:00 AM, and no entry will be allowed after 11:30 AM. The exam will be completed by 2:30 PM. You must carry a government-issued ID with you to take the test. (Note that the test will be held along with the entrance test/interview for PhD and MSR candidates in CSE, IIT Delhi.)

    (C) The written test will include two parts: an objective section and an on-paper programming section. Applicants must pass both the objective and the programming sections in order to be considered for interviews. The questions in the objective section will be on basic computer science topics, including: A sample paper is provided below to help you assess your preparedness for the written test. Please note that the exact format of the test may vary. (D) Applicants are required to carry the following items with them to take the test: You are permitted to bring a water bottle with you. No electronic devices will be allowed during the test, such as mobile phones, calculators, smartwatches, earphones, etc.

    (E) If you pass the written test, you will be asked to appear for an in-person interview. Interviews will be held in person on 14th to 16th May in the Bharti Building at IIT Delhi. If you have indicated in the questionnaire that you are coming from outside Delhi/NCR, we will do our best to complete your interview on 14th May by 5 PM.

    (Updated on May 13, 2026) The following MTech HVA candidates are shortlisted for the interview based on their performance in the written test: link . The reporting time for interviews is 9:00 AM. Candidates must report to the CSE department office, Bharti 401 on the 3rd floor of the Bharti Building. The interviews will be conducted between 9:30 AM and 1:30 PM.

    (F) Important note for part-time/sponsored candidates: Part-time candidates must bring with them a hard copy of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer in the prescribed NOC format. The NOC may be checked before or during the interview, and candidates without a valid NOC in the correct format will not be permitted to proceed in the admissions process.
