The great majority of you were taught in high school at the level of students much weaker than yourself.
Expect to have material discussed at two to three times the pace of high school.
Lecture time is at a premium, so must be used efficiently.
The responsibility of motivation for learning the material rests ultimately with you.
You are expected to read the textbook for comprehension.
The instructor’s job is primarily to provide a framework to guide you in doing your learning of the concepts and methods that comprise the material of the course.
You are capable of learning the easier material in the course largely on your own.
Chemistry was my favorite subject in high school. I could get a B-grade in this course with little effort.
The purpose of the classes and assignments is to prepare the student for the exams.
It is the teacher’s job to cover the material.
Since you are supposed to be learning from the book, there’s no need to go to the lectures.
A good teacher is one who can eliminate most of the struggle for the student, making the material easy to learn.
When the students are happy with the instructor’s lectures, they learn the material better.
Academics should be your first priority.

Get organized - seek a balance between social life and academics.
