Characterization of flows in complex geometries Industrial problems are often extremely challenging due to problems involving discrete materials (granular media) and complex shapes (porous media). The issue is two folds: characterization of geometry as well as estabilishing the form-function relationship. We use data science tools such as deep learning and graph networks to understand and model such problems.

GUPPIES General and Unified Parallel Particle Interaction Environtment for Simulations (GUPPIES) is a performance portable meshfree methods library currently in development in our lab. Written in modern C++, the library allows for low level development options without compromising performance. We use compile time polymorphisms where possible to achieve this. A variety of solvers with capillary forces, rigid body coupling, phase change are being developed on top of this library.

Multiphase flows Industrially relevant multiphase flows such as atomization and chemical processes most often come with additional complexities such as Non-Newtonian fluids and/or compressible phases. Handling these problems require simplifications of flows for practical purposes. This project explores Lagrangian numerical techniques that simulate capillary viscous flows. We study a variety of flows including melt flow in additive manufacturing, capillary flow based lithography techniques and bubble dynamics.
