Grading
| Component | Weight |
|---|---|
| Midterm Exam | 30% |
| Major Exam | 30% |
| Homework | 10% |
| Project | 30% |
Audit students must complete the project, appear for both exams, and maintain attendance ≥ 75%. The passing grade for audit is 40%.
Exams
Midterm and major exams will be scheduled based on the institute timetable.
Homework
Tentatively five homework assignments will be given; the best four will count toward the grade. The due date (typically two weeks from posting) is specified in each assignment. Late submissions are accepted only with prior consent from the instructor.
Project
What to do:
- Select a research paper on reliability engineering (preferably related to a course topic) OR choose a topic from reliability engineering (e.g., FOSM, FORM, SORM).
- Read the paper, identify the key contribution, and reproduce the results OR conduct a literature survey on the chosen topic.
- Prepare a report and a PowerPoint presentation.
- Teamwork is not allowed.
Timeline:
- Draft proposal (title + abstract ≤ 250 words): 25/01/2024
- Final proposal (revised based on feedback): 08/02/2024
- Progress report (prescribed format to be provided): 21/03/2024
- Final report + presentation: 18/04/2024
- Main report: at most four pages (A4, 11 pt, single spacing, 2.54 cm margins).
- Additional items (codes, derivations, etc.) in appendix.
- Presentation duration: ~10 minutes. Date/time to be notified.
Attendance
- Attendance will be recorded for each class. One grade will be lowered if overall attendance falls below 75%.
- In case of absence due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., medical), notify the instructor via email within one week.
- Medical certificate from IIT Delhi hospital required for exam deferral or extension.
