Dr. Shankar B. Chavan is Deputy Librarian at Central Library, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Presently, he is heading the Reader Services Division (RSD). Before his current responsibility, he also handled the General Administration-Staff & Duty Management (S&D), Computer Applications Division (CAD), and Library Store & Purchase Section (LSP), Collection Development Division and Technical Processing Division of the Central Library, IIT Delhi and INDEST-AICTE Consortium.

Prior to join IIT Delhi, he has also served at some of the esteemed organizations i.e. Advinus Therapeutics Ltd., Pune (TATA Enterprise), Eternal University, Baru Sahib, Himachal Pradesh, GE India Technology Center, Bangalore, National Center for Science Information, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

He has qualified UGC-NET & JRF examination, and PhD in Library and Information Science. He holds Bachelor degree in Science, Master of Library & Information Science (MLISc), MSc-IT, and PGDBA (Financial management).

He has participated in various Institute Level Committees and acted as Expert Member/Committee Member to the various professional bodies and Institutions/ universities.

He has a rich exposure of more than 20 years of library services serving at various esteemed organizations and extensive experience of working in successful e-resource consortia initiatives in India, i.e. the INDEST-AICTE Consortium. He has experience in the automation of libraries and the implementation of RFID technology in libraries. He is actively involved in automation related activities and significantly contributed in the implementation of RFID Technology and CCTV in the Central Library, IIT Delhi. He has published many research articles in learned journals and conference proceedings.

He has been Member of organizing committee/Resource person/Invited speaker in various national/international conferences/seminars/workshops.

He has been conferred with one of the most reputed 'SLA - Asian Information Professional Award 2021' by Special Libraries Association USA for young library professionals in recognition of significant achievements in the profession in Asia on 9th August 2021 during the Annual Virtual Conference of the SLA, USA.

He is recipient of 'Best paper award' for the paper presented and published in the IEEE 5th International Symposium on Emerging Trends and Technology in Libraries and Information Services (ETTLIS) held at Bennett University from February 21st -23rd, 2018.

He is an active member of professional societies in India and abroad, including SLA, ILA, DLA, IASLIC, KALA, NCSI-Net.

His area of interest includes Library Automation & RFID Technology, Digitization, Digital Library, Institutional Repositories and ETD, Knowledge Management, Content Management System, Web Technologies, E-Resources Consortia, E-Resources Subscription, Reference Services, DDS; Circulation Services; Acquisition; Classification; Cataloging; Scientometrics, Research analysis and novelty search; Usage analysis and statistics.
