Summary The aim of this project was to explore the possibility of synthesizing novel silaza and siloxy phosphines which can be used  as cyclic Si-N –P and Si-O-P containing ligands. These compounds were synthesized and structurally characterized. A novel finding from this project work was the isolation of diazadiphosphetdines and the first structural characterization of the t- butyl derived diazadiphosphetidine.

Summary This project dealt with the synthesis of six membered  CNS heterocycles having two carbons and one sulfur in the ring skeleton. A few of these compounds were prepared and some of their derivatives structurally characterized.

Summary This project was solely dealing with fluorinated cylotriphosphazenes and the reactions of the same  with  ferrocene derived hydroxymethyl phosphine sulfides. The most interesting outcome of this project was the  isolation and structural characterization of the first examples of exo and endo ansa substituted fluorophosphazenes. We were also able show that fluorinated cyclophosphazenes undergo ansa to spiro transformation in the presence of CsF as catalyst.

4. Title     Carbon in the ring framework of Inorganic heterocycles: reactivity differences of P-Cl, C-Cl and S-Cl bonds of PNC and CNS heterocycles
  Funding agency DST India
  Amount Rs 15 Lakhs
  Duration

1998-2001

Summary The topic of this project was centered on the dealkylation reactions of tertiary amines with carbaphosphazenes and carbathiazenes. We were able to explore in detail the various aspects involved in the dealkylation of tertiary amines with these heterocycles. The most important results include the isolation and structural characterization of ring opened products of bicylic amines thus providing evidence for the intermediate formed in these reaction. Structural characterization of a variety of dialklyamino derivatives of carbathiazenes also formed a major outcome of this project. In addiotn the project also helped to make a variety of ferrocene derived thionylphosphazenes which were structurally characterized.

5. Title     Ferrocene derived amines, phosphines and phosphine sulfides as a structural motif on Inorganic heterocycles
  Funding agency CSIR India
  Amount

  Duration

2001-2004

Summary This project envisages the synthesis of ferrocene derived inorganic heterocycles. We have been able to make a series of ferrocene derived  chloro as well as fluoro phosphazene derivatives and explore and compare the reactivity of chlorinated phosphazenes also with ferrocene derived phosphine sulfides. One interesting outcome was the realization that ansa to spiro transformation happens only for fluoro phosphazenes and in the case of chloro its does not happen. However in the presence of fluorinating agents the ring first undergoes fluorination followed by ansa to spiro transformation.

6. Title     New directions in the chemistry of P-Cl and P-F bonds of cyclic and acyclic P-N compounds

Summary In this project the chemistry of fluorinated and chlorinated cyclophosphazenes were compared along with exploring the chemistry of  carbaphosphazenes. Important findings from this project include  exploring the substitution pattern of 1,1 diphenyltetrafluoro cyclophosphazene with different diols, using carabaphosphazene as a reagent for converting alcohols to aldehydes, ketones and alkyl halides, preparation of lariat ether type carbaphosphazene derivatives and   making novel ferrocene and cobalt based organometallic derivatives of fluorophosphazene and new synthetic routes to bridged fluorophosphazenes.

7. Title     New directions in the chemistry of aminoalkylmetallocenes, metallocene carboxylic acids and aldehydes.

  Summary

The project deals with cyclic phosphazenes and their organometallic derivatives especially those of cobalt and iron based sandwich compounds and metallacycles. The project also explored the possibility of developing chiral derivatives of cobalt sandwich compounds which has the potential of use as catalysts. A series of new phosphazene based alkynes were prepared  which are potential precursors for new alkyne derived compounds.
