Project Progress Stage-I

Project Progress Stage-I

INTRODUCTION

1. The aim of this project was to develop a functional cocktail maker using an ArduinoUno board. Some of the factors considered essential in envisaging this project are:-

(a) Simple Operation - Prefed list of Cocktails which can be modified as required

(b) Aesthetically Appealing

(c) Easy to Assemble

Motivation

2. The intention was to include some fun element in the process of the course work. Hence, when the time for selection of the project came, various DIY projects in open source were observed. The idea of a cocktail maker was found to be an intersting project to be developed as it involved a good imagination and was a naturally motivating project.

3. Some websites where we can identify good projects are:-.

(a) Electronics for You

(b) Project Hub

Basic Code

4. The basic code was developed in Autodesk TinkerCad using 04 in number 12V DC motors in place of the 12V DC Solenoid Valves or Peristaltic Pumps. The idea was to develop a gravity based system in which the bottles are kept upside down and the liquid is disposed as required by operation of the soelnoid valves.

5. The basic setup of the project is as shown in fig below. In place of the 12V DC Solenoid valves for indication 12V DC Motors were used.

Challenges Envisaged

6. Though the project is still in early stages of development, the following challenges have been envisaged:-

(a)  Necessity of zero pressure Solenoid valves

(b)  Development of a leak proof and easy connection between solenoid valve and bottle

(c)  Source of power supply as the motors need 12V DC and the Arduino kit requires 5V DC supply

(d)  The possibility to use a digital regulator/ potentiometer in place of a pusg button for selection of the choice

(e)  Avoiding Air locks during operation (Dispersion of the liquid)

(f)  Feasibility of using 12V DC pumps for the operation in lieu of costly Perstaltic Pumps

Project Idea

7. Modelling of the Cocktail maker was undertaken using Rhinoceros Software version 6. It is easy to handle with a large library for design combination development. The basic design has been developed for positioning of 4 bottles in upside down position on top of the cocktail maker. In addition the feasibility of positioning 02 bottles beside the model is being worked upon. The maker is expected to have one LCD screen and two control switches to make the choice.

8. The basic design envisages to use gravity as a mechanism to draw the liquid from the bottles to the tumbler placed below, and hence the use of Solenoid operated valves is being considered. However, for operation of 12V DC solenoid valves (similar to the ones presently in domestic RO plants, there is a requirement for a pressure difference to be existing between the two ends of the valve. As our design developed is limited in the pressure available, suitable models of solenoid which can operate at zero pressure difference are being consideredd.

9. The basic design developed for the model is as follows:-
