Welcome to Joyful Living
I am Pradeep Bijwe. I have studied for 5 years at IIT Delhi, and have taught there for 37 years. Understanding what makes students happy and successful has been my passion.
Our sacred purpose in life is to be happy every moment. However, we all know that almost all students in all professional colleges, irrespective of their academic performance, are stressed and unhappy. Unfortunately, this is considered as inevitable. We are told to go through short term pain for achieving long term gain. However, our experience shows that this leads to a continued sequence of painful slog, followed by transient joy after achieving some milestones. This approach of waiting for the success to be joyful is a very poor substitute for our desire to be continuously joyful.
For an interview or an exam, with a given level of preparation, which one of the following results in better efficiency: Unhappy and agitated mind, or, happy and peaceful mind?
For studies/exam/job, when would your performance be better: when you hate studies/exam/job, or, when you love studies/exam/job?
The answers to the above questions reveal the following: The only secret to a stress free success is happiness, and the only secret to happiness is love. However, we all need to learn to improve this vital skill throughout life.
We know that for good quality and quantity production, we need to maintain the production equipment in most efficient condition. However, we seem to forget that this applies to human activities as well. The difficulty is perhaps because human being is the most complex gadget on earth. Understanding how our hardware of body and brain works using the operating system software based on values and beliefs, allows us to be happy and successful as well.
We seem to focus only on the externals like smart and hard work for success. Although these things are definitely important, far more fundamental is improving your inner self as described above which makes the externals happen automatically.
In the light of this, based on scientific research, this web page attempts to show that practicing being joyful in all activities improves chances of success significantly. Learning how to do this is a lifelong journey. However, taking first few steps in this journey is very easy and does not take much time. The success during these steps creates a momentum to keep you going. The most important aspect is that anyone in the academic or financial performance spectrum can start doing it at any stage in life. Our body, mind and intelligence potential is not fixed, the more you exercise them the more they grow.
This webpage contains twin articles "Be Joyful to be Successful" and "Joyfulness Practice". It also has several articles and some PPTs about some specific issues which are very important for the student community. However, it is important to note that these articles to be read ONLY after reading the main articles to appreciate the points in a better manner. Some PPTs and videos which are of specific interest to the Research Scholars are included in the videos section.
The Covid-19 pandemic has adversely affected academic life. Because of this, some additional tips about coping with this situation have also been included in the articles.
In student's life, it is not very easy to read many good books. Moreover, even after reading a book one needs some brief "take aways" for implementation in our lives. Hence, this webpage also contains abstracts of some outstanding books which could be very useful in this journey. These abstracts are designed to provide a gist of the wonderful content, and encourage you to read them fully at leisure. This page also contains links to some inspirational videos.
Wish you a very Joyful Living every moment, throughout your life.
