Dr. Aloka Sinha
Professor (HAG)
Department of Physics
IIT Delhi
Prof. Aloka Sinha is currently working as a HAG professor at the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. She obtained her M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Physics from IIT-Madras. She is currently doing research in the area of soft condensed matter physics, with a major attention to Liquid Crystalline (LC) systems. A principal part of her research work involves (i) characterization of pristine calamitic and bent core LC systems using various optical, spectroscopic, and electro-optic techniques, (ii) characterization of LC nanocomposites by means of nanoparticle dispersion in LC media, and (iii) design and fabrication of LC-core waveguides, devices and sensors (iv) polymer modified LCs and devices (v) energy harvesting using LCs. Earlier, Prof. Sinha had also worked in the field of optical information processing which involved development of new techniques for recognition and encryption based on biometrics and optical systems. Prof. Sinha is working in the field of liquid crystals and optical information processing for the past 30 years. She has published more than 98 papers in reputed international journals, 97 papers in conferences in India and abroad alongside 8 patents (2 granted international patents along with 5 granted and 1 filed Indian patents) in the field of her expertise. She has collaborated earlier with the LCMRC, University of Colorado, USA on liquid crystals as a part of her BOYSCAST fellowship and with TU Darmstadt, Germany on liquid crystal-based nanocomposites on a DAAD fellowship. Currently Prof. Sinha heads the Liquid Crystal Research Laboratory at the Dept. of Physics, IIT Delhi.
