Invited to join the National Integration Council by the Hon’ble Minister for Home Affairs, Shri P. Chidambaram. She has written accepting the honour and offering her services as a sociologist to the deliberations of the Council. The National Integration Council functions as a forum for effective initiatives and interaction on issues of national concern, and to review issues relating to national integration and to make recommendations thereon. First convened in 1961, the NIC was established by Prime Minister Pandit Nehru as a multiparty agency that would serve as a forum for meetings and discussions that could help in building a truly democratic political system. It was disbanded under the NDA and was re-constituted in 2005. The NIC comprises Union ministers, chief ministers, political leaders and representatives of national commissions, media persons, businessmen, eminent public figures and others. The Prime Minister Shri Manmohan Singh, is the Chairman of the Council. |

Offered Headship of the Department of HSS. Has successfully led the Department in helping the Institute make job offers to four scholars – two in Economics, one in Sociology and one in Policy Studies/Sociology. All four faculty have been recruited at the Assistant Professor level. Under her the department is acting as a catalyst in the creation of a centralized English Language Cell in the Institute to cater to the needs of a fast growing student population, with a distinctive social profile in the years to come. In the area of curriculum review, the Department is in discussions structuring the constituent disciplines of HSS in order to remove some of the randomness in Course selections made by the Undergraduates. The exercise foresees the possibility of one or two Minor Areas in HUSS being offered as part of the undergraduate curriculum at IIT Delhi. At the same time, it hopes to feed into a vibrant pre-Ph.D programme at the post-graduate level, with meaningful subject Thrust Areas and/or specializations. The on-going Seminar Series held every Tuesday is being combined with informal evening get-togethers to enhance the community experience of Department Ph.D scholars |

Nominated by the ICCR, External Affairs Ministry, GOI to go on deputation to Tel Aviv University, Israel as a Visiting Chair in the Humanities & Social Sciences. The tenure of the Chair was from March – June 2009, in which period, she took a seminar with the post graduate students of the Department titled “Out of Asia: Comparative Perspectives on India”. She also gave two public lectures, one at the Department, titled “In Service: The Brahminisation of the Knowledge Economy” and the other at the S. Daniel Abraham Center for International and Regional Studies, titled “Misdirections in Education: The paradox of Indian Development” |
