Thesis Research:

Identification and exploration of potential drug targets againts Neisseria gonorrhoeae

Neisseria gonorrhoeae is generally regarded as a human commensal pathogen. Although, there are two strains N. gonorrhoea and N. meningitidis which cause disease in humans. N gonorrhoea cause sexually transmitted disease (STD) whereas, N. meningitidis causes septicaemia and meningitis. Ng is known to show broad-spectrum antibiotic resistance, which makes it very difficult to treat. Present day treatments for gonorrhoea infections include combinatorial treatment with ceftriaxone and azithromycin, which in most cases are sufficient to tackle this infection. Quite alarmingly, of late, there are cases of antibiotic resistance strains emerging from all around the world, including Europe, USA, India and Malasia. So, my work focus on exploring different proteins which can be used as potential drug targets againts Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
