2020 Sem I HSL768: Judgment and Decision Making. [online].

This is a MSc cognitive science elective and an Institute open elective. On successful completion, one should be able to demonstrate understanding about cognitive mechansism in individual decision making under riskless and risky contexts. It would also link findings to contemporary issues using the framework of behavioral economics and deliberate on possible directions. Contents: Bounded rationality, Judgments under riskless and risky contetxs, Decision making under certainty and Uncertainty, Subjective risk and affect.

HUL370: Selected Topics in Psychology.

The course will focus on human judgment by discussing empirical results from various research domains. Topics span Two systems of judgments, Heuristics and Biases (how heuristics make decision worse), Fast and frugal heuristics (how heuristics make decisions better) and applications (marketing, medical, social, behavioural change).

The course covers fundamental aspects of how the mind works without assuming any pre-requisites. Contents: Psychology as a science, Biological and Evolutionary basis of behavior, Perception and Attention, Pattern recognition, Memory: Structures and processes, Memory: Models and theories, Forgetting and Amnesia, Extraordinary memory and Experts, Mental Imagery, Types of learning, Motivation, Linking psychology and technology, Artificial minds. The course will be a first course in behavioural economics. Topics span historical introduction to major ideas in psychology and economics and onward to behavioral economics with a focus on rationality along with Normative and descriptive approaches to judgments, Normative and descriptive approaches to choices, Criticisms.
