Dr. Sumitava Mukherjee has been studying human Judgment and Decision Making (JDM) for more than 15 years. He chooses to see his work in the lines of psychological foundations for (behavioral) economics*. He has been interested in the psychology of valuation, and have been studying the psychological foundations of gains and losses at multiple levels - from lab studies to applied circumstances. Mukherjee Decision Lab focuses on valuation of outcomes and on value-based decision making. One parallel new thread has been to study thinking and decision making among people living under scarcity or poverty. His recent interest is setting up the WaterThoughts research group that aims to develop psychological perspectives on the theme of water. A future exploration is value in minmalism and in ways minialist thinking can impact society. Over time, he has started to wonder about value in a general manner and on possible alternate foundations of behavioral economics for a better world. Mukherjee is happy to work with organizations that would like to use knowledge about JDM but he is especially committed to behavioral science for good. He looks forward to work or collaborate on projects related to the themes of water and air or those aligned with other sustainable development goals (especially in India / Bharat). Dr. Mukherjee joined the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi in 2018 and is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) and an associate faculty at the Yardi School of Artificial Intelligence (ScAI). At Dept of HSS, he is associated with psychology and cognitive science. At the School of AI, he is interested in the public psychology and judgments about AI, valuation of AI artefacts, and human-computer or human-robot economic interactions. Mukherjee is a member of the Society for Judgment and Decision Making (SJDM) USA; a 10-year+ member in Association for Psychological Science (APS) USA, International Affiliate member of the American Psychological Association (APA), member of the Cognitive Science Society (USA); Professional member in Association for Computing Machinery (ACM); a prior member of the National Academy of Psychology (NAOP) India, and a Life-member of Indian Science Congress. He has served on the executive committee of NAOP India and of Cultural Evolution Society, USA. He was awarded the Emerging Psychologist award in 2014 by NAOP India, the Outstanding researcher award by IIT Gandhinagar in 2014 and the Young Psychologist award in 2020 by NAOP India.
