Dr. Ram Chandra joined as Faculty in this Centre in August 2018. Prior to joining as Faculty at IIT Delhi, he was associated with this Centre as BDT’s - Energy Bioscience Overseas Fellow (3.5 Y). He also served as Assistant Professor of Renewable Energy from 2008-2012 at the College of Agricultural Engineering and Post-Harvest Technology, Central Agricultural University, Gangtok, Sikkim, where he taught renewable energy related courses to UG and PG students and did researches and extension activities. He is having experience of more than nine years in the area of sustainable bio-energy production utilizing biomass resources.
Dr. Ram Chandra is PhD in Energy from biomass resources from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in January 2010. He did his Master of Technology in Farm Machinery & Power Engineering (Agricultural Engineering) in July 2003, and Bachelor of Technology in Agricultural Engineering in 2001 from G. B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, India. Dr. Ram Chandra also did his Post-Doctoral research from Nagoya University, Japan in area of agricultural biomass pretreatment for efficient production of biomethane to provide sustainable fuel and fertilizer.
Dr. Chandra had provided technical consultancy to world’s first paddy straw fed biogas plant based power plant which is operating on commercial scale in Fazilka, Punjab, India (http://www.sampurn.in). The system is based on 100% use of paddy straw for biogas production and has been generating nearly 4,000 cubic metre per day of biogas using 10-12 tonnes of paddy straw. This is in turn operates 1.0 MW power generation unit for 7–8 hours per day and producing good quality organic fertilizer.
Dr. Chandra have published 42 publications (as on August 2018) in various national, international, conference proceedings and feature articles. Dr. Ram Chandra’s key areas of research and interest are; Sustainable energy and environment; Appropriate management of biomass resource for sustainable energy and bio-fertilizer production; GHG emissions and climate change understanding and managements for abatement; Efficient biogas production from agricultural biomass resources; Sustainable rural energy systems; Biogas purification (Bio-CNG production), storage and utilization for thermal, power generation, and vehicular applications; Agricultural engineering; Agricultural machines and power.
Profile - Dr. Pooja Ghosh
Dr. Pooja Ghosh
Dr. Pooja Ghosh joined the centre as a DST-INSPIRE Faculty in November 2016. Currently she
is working on “Energy recovery and biodegradation of municipal solid waste using anaerobic
bioreactor landfill: A life cycle perspective". Prior to joining the department, her interest in
environmental issues and keenness to find solutions to environmental problems encouraged her
to pursue doctoral studies from Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology lab, School of
Environmental Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. Her doctoral work involved risk
assessment of landfill leachate from unengineered landfill sites and its proper treatment and
detoxification. It contributed significantly in aiding policymakers, environmentalists, scientists,
students, and most importantly, citizens, in realizing the problem of unengineered landfill sites of
India generating contagious wastewater leachate that percolates into the ground water. She did
her masters in Environmental Biology from University of Delhi and graduation in Botany from
Gargi College, University of Delhi. She received gold medals for securing first position both at
the graduation and post-graduation level in University of Delhi.
Dr. Ghosh has published 20 research articles (as on November 2018) in journals and books of
international repute. Her area of domain is Environment Management with a keen interest on
broader aspects like Environmental risk assessment, Solid waste management, Wastewater
treatment, Biotechnological solutions to environmental issues, Bioenergy and Sustainabilty.
